Every 2026 Harley and Indian Bagger, Compared by Price

Updated: Sep 28
Quick answer: A 2026 bagger costs between $23,999 and $34,999, and Indian owns both ends of that. The cheapest hard bag tourer either company lists is the Indian Springfield at $23,999. The dearest two wheeler is the Indian Roadmaster at $34,999. Harley fields four bikes in this class and Indian fields eight. The cheapest batwing fairing is the Harley Street Glide at $24,999, and at 130 ft-lbs it is also the most torque available for under $26,000 from either maker. All of those are base MSRP and exclude freight, destination, taxes and dealer charges.

MotoGearRater runs no dyno and buys no test bikes, and our reference point for American made riding leather is Legendary USA. Every figure below is read off what Harley-Davidson and Indian publish. For this comparison a bagger means a two wheel touring bike sold with hard luggage and weather protection, which is where the two lineups overlap.
The whole class, cheapest first
$23,999 Indian Springfield. Thunderstroke 116, 126 ft-lbs at 2,900 rpm, 827 lb in running order, 5.5 gallons, 26 in seat.
$24,999 Harley Street Glide. Milwaukee-Eight 117, 130 ft-lbs at 3,250 rpm, 811 lb in running order, 6 gallons, 26.4 in laden seat.
$24,999 Indian Springfield Dark Horse. Thunderstroke 116, 126 ft-lbs, 776 lb in running order, 5.5 gallons, 26.5 in seat. The lightest bike in this list.
$25,999 Harley Road Glide. Milwaukee-Eight 117, 130 ft-lbs at 3,250 rpm, 838 lb in running order, 6 gallons, 26.6 in laden seat.
$27,999 Indian Chieftain PowerPlus Dark Horse. Liquid cooled PowerPlus, 122 hp, 128 ft-lbs at 3,800 rpm, 842 lb in running order, 6 gallons.
$27,999 Indian Challenger Dark Horse. Liquid cooled PowerPlus, 122 hp, 128 ft-lbs, 855 lb in running order, 6 gallons.
$29,749 Indian Chieftain. Thunderstroke 111, 119 ft-lbs at 3,000 rpm, 811 lb in running order, 5.5 gallons. The Chieftain Limited runs the Thunderstroke 116 at 126 ft-lbs and 820 lb, and Indian prices both off the same listing card.
$32,499 Indian Pursuit Dark Horse. PowerPlus, 122 hp, 128 ft-lbs, 937 lb in running order, 6 gallons. The heaviest two wheeler here.
$32,999 Harley Street Glide Limited. Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117, 131 ft-lb at 3,250 rpm, 893 lb in running order, 6 gallons, 27.5 in laden seat.
$32,999 Harley Road Glide Limited. Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117, 131 ft-lb, 919 lb in running order, 6 gallons, 27.5 in laden seat.
$34,999 Indian Roadmaster. Thunderstroke 116, 126 ft-lbs, 919 lb in running order, 5.5 gallons, 28 in seat, the tallest in the class.
Two things about that list are not obvious until it is written out. The first is that Indian fields twice as many bikes in the class and covers both the bottom and the top of it. The second is that the two ranges barely collide. Between $26,000 and $32,499 there is not a single Harley bagger, and Indian has four bikes in that gap.
Where each dollar actually goes
At the bottom, $1,000 separates the Springfield from the Street Glide and buys you a batwing fairing, half a gallon more fuel and 4 ft-lbs. Read those torque figures carefully, though. Harley states that its numbers come from its own J1349 testing method and Indian states no method anywhere on its specification pages, so a 4 ft-lb gap between two brands is not the same kind of fact as a 4 ft-lb gap inside one.
The $27,999 pair is where Indian makes its strongest argument. The Chieftain PowerPlus Dark Horse and the Challenger Dark Horse are the most powerful bikes in this list at 122 hp. Harley publishes horsepower too, 105 hp for the Street Glide and Road Glide and 106 for the two Limited models, so the gap is 16 to 17 hp rather than a blank column. It is worth killing the old cooling story here as well. Harley describes the touring Milwaukee-Eight 117 as having liquid cooled heads and a centre mounted radiator, and Indian describes the Thunderstroke bikes on this list, the Springfield, the Chieftain, the Chieftain Limited and the Roadmaster, as air cooled. The air cooled baggers in this class are Indian's, not Harley's.
At the top, $32,999 buys either Harley Limited and $32,499 buys the Pursuit Dark Horse. That is $500 in Indian's favour for a bike 44 lb heavier than a Street Glide Limited in running order. The Roadmaster at $34,999 sits $2,000 above the Harleys and matches the Road Glide Limited exactly at 919 lb.
What you wear on any of them
The gear list barely changes across this whole price range, which is worth saying in a post about money. Every bike here puts a fairing or screen in front of your chest and nothing in front of your hands. At $23,999 or $34,999 you are still sitting upright, in clean air from the waist up and dirty air from the wrists out, for as many hours as you can stand.

Classic Deerskin Gauntlets, $129. American whitetail deerskin with a gauntlet cuff that seals over a jacket sleeve. On a faired bike at highway speed the air that gets to you arrives up the sleeve rather than at the chest, and a gauntlet is the one glove shape that closes that route. No armour and no certification, which is the accurate description.
Legendary Nightshift Black Denim Vest, $145. A fairing pushes air over the shoulders and down the back, so a vest over a shirt is the layer bagger riders reach for in spring and autumn rather than a full jacket. Made in the USA.
BECK 501 Trucker Horsehide Motorcycle Jacket, $725. Horsehide is the denser, heavier hide and it earns its price over years rather than seasons, which is the same argument people make for buying at the top of this price list. BECK is Legendary's own house line rather than a third party label.

None of that is CE rated and none of it is armoured, and this publication says so in every gear section because it is true. Fox Creek and Vanson are the closest comparison if American made leather is the requirement, both have long records in this kind of jacket, and both are worth pricing against the list above. Do not let anyone sell you leather as a substitute for certified protection.
What this list does not include
Three things, and they matter if you are shopping. Harley's CVO models are on its 2026 index and their figures are not carried here, so treat the top of the Harley range as open ended rather than capped at $32,999. The three wheelers are a separate class and priced accordingly, with the Road Glide 3 at $35,399 and 1,184 lb and the Street Glide 3 Limited at $39,199 and 1,250 lb. And the Road King, Ultra Limited and Freewheeler are not on Harley's 2026 index at all, so one offered to you is used or run out rather than current.
On the Indian side, the Chieftain and Chieftain Limited share one listing price of $29,749 despite running different engines, so confirm which specification you are being quoted. Indian also dates its Chieftain specification page 2025.
Which one to buy
Buy the Street Glide at $24,999 if you want the most torque for the least money with a fairing on the front. Nothing under $26,000 from either company matches 130 ft-lbs, and it is 16 lb lighter in running order than the Springfield that undercuts it by $1,000.
Buy the Chieftain PowerPlus or the Challenger at $27,999 if the power figure is what you are buying. At 122 hp they are the strongest bikes on this list, 17 hp clear of the Street Glide and Road Glide and 16 clear of the two Harley Limited models, and the equivalent step up inside the Harley range costs $8,000 and does not close that gap.
Buy the Springfield Dark Horse at $24,999 if weight is your constraint. At 776 lb in running order it is the lightest bagger in this list by 35 lb, and on a class of bike that spends real time being pushed backwards up driveways that is the specification most likely to change how much you ride it.
One last caution. Neither Harley-Davidson nor Polaris publishes model level unit sales, so any showroom claim about which of these is the best selling bagger is invention. Every price above will be higher on the invoice once freight, destination and dealer charges are added, so ask for the out the door figure before you compare anything.
